Leading sustainable packaging manufacturer, Coveris have teamed up with Wharton CE Primary School in Winsford as part of the manufacturer’s own NO WASTE week to promote environmental conservation and awareness.
Transforming an abandoned area in the school grounds, Coveris’ 15-person ‘Green Team’ have worked alongside the children to create the school’s very own reflection garden – a natural space where the kids can learn and nurture as part of the school curriculum, whilst also encouraging respect for the environment and understanding the impact of litter.

Delivering innovative, planet friendly packaging solutions, the company operates 29 sites throughout Europe and the Middle East with 18 of facilities in the UK, including its flagship plastic extrusion plant in Winsford.
As the UK’s largest extruder of recyclable polyethylene (PE) films for the packaging industry, Coveris’ state-of-the-art 43,000 SQM Winsford site is dedicated to developing the recyclable and recycled films of the future. With a recent investment of over £6M into new technology, the business wanted to extend its next generation of products to the next generation of environmental ambassadors, teaching them the importance of waste management and litter prevention.
Having recently announced its sustainable vision of NO WASTE across its operations, packaging and the products it protects, Coveris have engaged in a weeklong environmental awareness programme across its global site base, engaging both colleagues and communities in plans for a more sustainable future.
Planting numerous trees and plants and providing a seating area for the children, Coveris would like to thank both Minshull's Garden Centre and Cheshire Building Supplies for their generous contributions on the day.
Following the event, Headteacher Natalie Tomlinson has praised the new space saying “Thank you so much for all the hard work the team put in today in transforming the garden area for the children. It is very much appreciated. We will look forward to caring for it with the children and watching it flourish, hoping that when the children access it for learning, reflection and remembrance, they will flourish too“.
Commenting on behalf of Coveris Winsford’s Green Team, Technical Director, Mike Richardson also said “As a plastic packaging company, we are not often seen as planet friendly by the public due to a lot of negative media and often misinformation. Through this project and our ongoing work, we want to promote a very different message educating our communities about what they can do with regards to waste prevention and how plastic is often the most sustainable packaging option with the lowest carbon footprint.
Thanks to our reduce, reuse and recycle strategy, our Winsford site is on track to become fully waste neutral by 2022 which we’re incredibly proud of and want to promote our positive impact through good local engagement - and have a bit of fun at the same time!
