Packaging trends

We live and breathe packaging and inform our creative capabilities through research into the latest global trends and insights from across FMCG, alongside our academic partners, Leeds Beckett University.

We focus on the four key drivers of packaging: sustainability, aesthetics, functionality and efficiency

Our vision

Packaging should be functional, minimise its environmental footprint, and be easy to manage after use. Our goal is to deliver packaging solutions that hit that sweet spot.

By combining our extensive experience and insights across a wide range of materials, formats, and supply chain requirements, we create packaging that is visually impactful to maximise consumer appeal, sustainable in both design and materials, optimised for manufacturing and logistics, and highly functional for end use.

Sustainability

Supporting our global No Waste vision, we recognise that sustainability is no longer just a design consideration – it is the design process itself. Legislation, voluntary commitments, and public pressure are driving significant environmental changes in food and beverage packaging. Whether you’re aiming for packaging reduction, improved recyclability, or the use of recycled or renewable materials, the Pack Positive® Centre offers on-site sustainability expertise to help you develop lower-carbon packaging solutions – better for today and tomorrow.

Aesthetics

At the Pack Positive® Centre, we ensure every pack is designed for maximum consumer appeal and standout on the shelf, while clearly communicating the right information and messaging. With in-house design expertise across colour, typography, visual attention, shape, and photography, we create designs that differentiate your brand and make it ‘pop’ both in-store and online.

Functionality

Packaging exists to serve a functional role for the product, the user, and the supply chain. Our in-house team of creative and structural designers and engineers apply expert knowledge, insights, and consumer testing to maximise packaging functionality – both during use and at end of life. This includes optimising pack size, improving ease of use, opening and disposal, as well as enhancing engagement and the communication of essential information.

Efficiency

Packaging efficiency is often considered too late in the development process. By focusing on this at the design stage, we work with our customers to help minimise costs, maximise running speeds, and reduce waste, storage, and distribution impacts.

The Pack Positive® Center team supports all efficiency requirements – from full pack redesign to value engineering projects – to ensure packaging is optimised every step of the way.

Leeds Beckett University Academic Partnership

Helping you make the right decision for your customers, our academic partnership with Leeds Beckett University’s The Retail Institute allows for qualitative and quantitative consumer testing.

The Retail Institute’s insight and consumer research methods are applicable to multiple phases of the packaging design process. Their bespoke research design process helps to generate ideas for new products, identify consumer preferences, support the business case for a chosen format and help to test or validate a product prior to launching on the market.
