‘For us, packaging material is not about choosing between paper or plastic, but about finding the best, most eco-efficient and best-performing packaging for the product in question - with no restrictions on the material,’ explains Jakob A. Mosser, CEO of the Coveris Group. ‘We are proud to once again be able to present a wide range of films, laminates and prefabricated packaging solutions at FachPack that are among the best in our industry in terms of sustainability.’
Innovation for the future
In the spirit of the circular economy, Coveris is focussing on the development of advanced, high-performance packaging designs made from recyclate that guarantee easy recyclability. One of the key innovations the company will be showcasing at FachPack is the expanded CPP Cleancast Films range of polypropylene-based duplex and triplex laminate alternatives. The main advantage of these cast polypropylene films is their high temperature resistance without shrinking (0 % at 150 °C). This makes it ideal packaging for food, pet food and non-food products. It also helps to conserve resources thanks to its improved recyclability.
Two further innovations from Coveris that also score points for their recyclability are new wash-off labels and fully recyclable transport films. The wash-off labels have been specially developed for PET and rPET bottles and containers. The labels, which are compatible with deposit return systems (DRS), enable maximum recovery of clean PET that is recycled for rPET. The labels are also available with DPG-approved security ink for a traceable recycling process. The fully recyclable transport films have a recyclate content of 30%. The stretch films, including tubes, are made from recycled plastic and produced using energy from renewable sources. They therefore offer an efficient and sustainable solution for stabilising up to 900 kg of freight with just 800 grams of film, for example.
Coveris' extended range of recyclable PE and PP MonoFlex films and laminates, including packaging for grated cheese, will also be on display at the show.MonoFlex packaging is available in a wide range of formats and sizes (up to 12kg) and offers a direct replacement for non-recyclable or hard-to-recycle plastics - while maintaining product shelf life, performance, functionality and packaging efficiency.
Paper-based packaging is not neglected either. The PaperBarrier Seal packaging introduced by Coveris in 2021 has been optimised in terms of functionality and product safety - while minimising packaging and product waste.PaperBarrier Seal is suitable for a wide range of products, such as dry foods or snacks. The packaging is characterised by a special paper coating that enables sealing while being fully recyclable in existing paper streams.
Customised packaging for every product
Brands looking for attractive, recyclable packaging alternatives for dairy products and fresh produce will find what they are looking for at Coveris. A wide range of award-winning lidding films, foils and laminates combine the best features of the packaging manufacturer's standard products. These include improved convenience when opening and resealing, lower material weight and an attractive, high-quality appearance at the point of sale.
The demand for ‘to go’ food packaging is growing rapidly.Coveris has recognised this trend and responded with the RecyclaPEel MAP sandwich box.
The packaging has been developed for longer shelf life, excellent product visibility and shelf appeal. Consisting of a sustainably produced cardboard and a peelable polyethylene (PE) film, all components are separable and fully recyclable.
‘With our ‘No Waste’ vision, we are doing everything we can to reduce packaging, product and operational waste. That's why we invest tirelessly in research and development to bring packaging to the market that reduces waste as much as possible. And we do this without compromising on quality and safety,’ summarises Jakob A. Mosser.
