Driven by increasing regulatory pressure, including the forthcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), alongside rising sustainability expectations, pet food producers are seeking solutions that balance product protection, environmental impact and operational efficiency. At Interzoo, Coveris will present packaging innovations designed to address these challenges across snacks and treats, as well as dry and wet pet food applications.
Supporting compliance through PFAS-free design
PFAS, often referred to as “forever chemicals”, are under increasing scrutiny due to their persistence in the environment and tightening regulations. From 12 August 2026, strict EU limits on PFAS in food-contact packaging will apply, making PFAS-free design a critical requirement to ensure compliance and continued market access. In this context, pet food producers are actively seeking solutions that balance product protection, environmental impact and operational efficiency.
All solutions presented at Interzoo have been developed with a PFAS-free design approach, supporting customers in preparation for upcoming regulatory requirements and ensuring a smooth transition towards compliance.
As regulatory landscapes evolve, Coveris offers pet food producers monomaterial, recyclable packaging solutions, which support the circular economy, and reduce environmental impact across the value chain.
Balancing protection, sustainability and efficiency
Among the highlights, the MonoFlexE Opti weight bag has been developed to reduce material consumption without compromising performance. This lightweight solution supports cost optimisation, including the reduction of packaging-related taxes, while remaining fully recyclable and designed without PFAS. It also ensures strong stability throughout the supply chain, combined with a premium shelf appearance.
Coveris will also present MonoFlexBE metallised, a fully recyclable PE monomaterial solution incorporating a metallised inner layer to deliver high barrier performance. Designed for applications requiring protection against oxygen and moisture, it enables shelf-life extension while maintaining a high-quality look and feel, making it particularly suited to premium pet food formats.
Complementing the range, MonoFlexE Lite offers a mono-material PE solution tailored for selected applications. Combining clarity with reliable functionality, it is available in both barrier and non-barrier structures and integrates adaptable sealing options. High-quality print enhances on-pack communication, while optional features such as anti-mist improve presentation. Compatibility with Freshlife® technology further supports product freshness and shelf life.
