Sustainable packaging manufacturer, Coveris has worked with leading poultry producer Moy Park to launch a new recyclable stand-up pouch for Tesco ready-to-eat chicken.

Moving from a rigid tray format with mixed lidding film into a recyclable mono-laminate pouch supports both Moy Park’s commitment to packaging weight reduction, as well as Coveris’ sustainable vision of NO WASTE.

Providing a first-to-market recyclable barrier pouch for the packaged protein category, the new MonoFlexBE solution delivers a plastic weight saving of 55% to offer a lighter, more convenient format for cooked meats.

Available now on packs of Tesco BBQ Chicken Breast Pieces, the new stand-up format is suitable for all snacking applications. With innovative recyclable barrier technology supporting the same shelf-life requirements, the new resealable pouch also features a zip-lock function for improved convenience and reduced food waste through better storage.

Developed through Coveris’ leading R&D network, the new MonoFlexBE film is the latest product innovation to showcase the benefits of the manufacturer’s unique synergies across polymer science, film manufacturing, food safety and shelf-life management, as well as print and technical conversion.

Rosemary Perry, Packaging Development Manager at Moy Park said “We were really excited to develop and launch this mono PE film for our cooked chicken product. This pack supports Moy Park’s pledge to reduce packaging weight by 5% year on year and delivers on Tesco’s strategy to use mono PE films where possible due to better end-of life-solutions and to promote packaging circularity”

Also commenting on the launch, Mark Robinson, Coveris Flexibles Technical Sales Manager added “we’re really proud to have supported both Tesco and Moy Park throughout this project and be given the opportunity to deliver a first-to-market solution that not only increases the recyclability of flexible films, but also introduces an entirely new, reduced plastic, reduced waste format to the category.”
