Packaging manufacturer Coveris is launching its innovative modified atmosphere RecyclaPEel MAP sandwich skillet exclusively at FachPack this week. Targeting food waste reduction and recyclability in the European food-on-the-move and convenience sectors, Coveris’ RecyclaPEel MAP sandwich skillet is an exciting development in the industry for long shelf life products.

Coveris, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of hybrid film lined products with award-winning expertise in food-on-the-move, has combined sustainable packaging innovation with a forward thinking modified atmosphere design in the development of RecyclaPEel MAP. Launching at FachPack, the European trade fair for packaging, technology and processing, RecyclaPEel MAP specifically targets the European market where there is greater demand for increased product shelf life.

An evolution of Coveris’ peelable and separable RecyclaPEel sandwich skillet made from fully recyclable cartonboard and PE liner components, the design of RecyclaPEel MAP enables the lined corners to form a tight gas seal. When packed using a gas-flush process, the tight seal retains control of pack atmosphere over the lifecycle of the product, extending shelf life significantly beyond the four days achieved with Coveris’ lined board skillets typically used in the UK market, subject to testing and ingredients used. With increased product shelf life, sandwiches stay fresher for longer, supporting food waste reduction.

RecyclaPEel MAP sandwich skillets are designed with a peelable PE membrane that is separable by consumers to encourage recycling of both the sustainably sourced cartonboard and PE liner components. RecyclaPEel MAP skillets can also be recycled within paper recycling infrastructures with reduced adhesion enabling the PE liner to detach during the process for maximum board recovery.

Printable up to nine colours, RecyclaPEel MAP skillets deliver on-shelf appeal and excellent product visibility with an anti-mist option also available.

Will Mercer, Coveris’ Graphics, Label & Board R&D Director said: “FachPack is the perfect opportunity to launch our new RecyclaPEel MAP sandwich skillet. Targeting the European food-on-the-move market, RecyclaPEel MAP is Coveris’ extended life sandwich skillet

meeting longer shelf life demands in the European food-on-the-move market. Aligned with Coveris’ vision for No Waste, including products and packaging, our innovative RecyclaPEel MAP is a fully recyclable, forward thinking pack for the future of food-on-the-move in Europe.”
