As a packaging producer, Coveris works closely with customers to develop solutions that meet demanding technical and regulatory requirements. Integrating post-consumer recyclate (PCR) is not simply about sourcing materials; it requires ensuring the right quality, consistent performance, and processing. To advance circular solutions, Coveris has established ReCover consolidating its recycling capabilities, technology investments and strategic partnerships. ReCover addresses packaging waste challenges across industrial, medical, home and personal care, and food applications.
“We are not committing to just one approach,” says Philipp Niehues, Business Development Director at Coveris and Head of ReCover. “Closing the loop means deploying the right recycling method for each application. Mechanical, chemical and solvent-based recycling are complementary tools.”
Complementary recycling technologies driving circularity
Mechanical recycling remains central to this strategy. In collaboration with leading environmental service provider, Interzero, Coveris ensures recycled materials perform reliably across demanding industrial, home and personal care applications. To meet growing customer demands, Coveris has invested in advanced de-inking technology to produce high-quality recyclates and will showcase PCR-based applications at PRSE 2026, including bottle sleeves, tissue overwrap and industrial films.
In parallel, Coveris is investing in solvent-based recycling, with a UK pilot plant for COtooCLEAN technology in collaboration with Nextek. This technology enables purification of complex polyolefins and supports future food-grade applications. For highly regulated sectors such as healthcare, chemical recycling plays a key role. Together with SABIC, Zuyderland Medical Centre, Artivion and partners, Coveris demonstrated a closed-loop proof of concept at COMPAMED 2025, converting hospital waste into new medical packaging using mass balance principles.
“At PRSE, Coveris sends a clear message: circularity is not about choosing sides. It is about combining technologies, strengthening partnerships and designing packaging that performs – today and in a resource-constrained tomorrow”, summarises Philipp Niehues.
